Dear Parents,

In this Sunday’s Gospel of Luke, two of Jesus’ disciples were sharing with the other disciples what had taken place on the road to Emmaus and how Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of the bread. As they were sharing their story Jesus suddenly stood among them and said “Peace be with you.” They were confused, frightened. Were they seeing a ghost? “Look at my hands and feet. Touch me. Do you have something to eat?” They all watched Jesus eat. Ghosts don’t eat. He reminded them to remember all he had taught them according to the Scriptures. Jesus opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. He had died and risen on the third day for the repentance and forgiveness of our sins and they were to be witnesses of this truth and preach this truth to all the nations.

St. Pope John Paul II said in Australia in 1986. “We do not pretend that life is all beauty. We are aware of darkness and sin, of poverty and pain. But we know Jesus has conquered sin and passed through his own pain to the glory of the Resurrection. And we live in the light of his Paschal Mystery – the mystery of his Death and Resurrection. We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song!”. Witness my dear families to this truth with joy.

Queridas familias,

En el Evangelio de Lucas de este domingo, dos discípulos de Jesús compartían con los otros discípulos lo que había ocurrido en el camino a Emaús y cómo habían conocido a Jesús al partir el pan. Mientras compartían de lo que paso, Jesús de repente se presentó entre ellos y dijo: "La paz esté con ustedes". Estaban confundidos, asustados. ¿Estaban viendo un fantasma? "Mira mis manos y pies. Tócame. ¿Tienen algo de comer?" Todos vieron a Jesús comer. Los fantasmas no comen. Les recordó que recordaran todo lo que les había enseñado de acuerdo con las Escrituras. Jesús les abrió el entendimiento para que comprendieran las Escrituras. Él había muerto y resucitado en el tercer día para el arrepentimiento y el perdón de nuestros pecados y debían ser testigos de esta verdad y predicar esta verdad a todas las naciones.

San Juan Pablo II dijo en Australia en 1986. "No pretendemos afirmar que todo en la vida sea bueno y bello. Somos conscientes de la existencia de la oscuridad y del pecado, de la pobreza y del sufrimiento. Pero sabemos que Jesús ha vencido al pecado, pasando a través de su propio sufrimiento a la gloria de la Resurrección. Y nosotros vivimos a la luz de su Misterio Pascual: el misterio de su muerte y resurrección. ¡Somos un pueblo de Pascua y Aleluya es nuestra canción!". Sea testigo mi querida familias de esta verdad con gozo.
