Dear Families,

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus appears to his disciples and gives them the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The season of Easter ends with today’s celebration, Pentecost. On Pentecost we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit. Before Jesus Ascended into heaven, he promised to send the Holy Spirit, and he kept his promise.

This Sunday, the story of Pentecost is found in the first reading of Acts of the Apostles. The Holy Spirit descends upon the Apostles gathered in the upper room in Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit comes like wind because it is God’s life breathed into us and fire because it gives us light to show us God’s ways. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand who God is and enables us to be his witness to share his love throughout the world.

Family Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank you for the gift of Pentecost and for new life in the Holy Spirit. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and set my heart ablaze with the fire of your love that I may serve you in joy and freedom.

En el Evangelio de este domingo, Jesús se presenta a sus discípulos y les da el don del Espíritu Santo.

La temporada de Pascua termina con la celebración de hoy, Pentecostés. En Pentecostés celebramos el descenso del Espíritu Santo. Antes de que Jesús ascendiera al cielo, prometió enviar al Espíritu Santo, y cumplió su promesa.

Este domingo, la historia de Pentecostés se encuentra en la primera lectura de Hechos de los Apóstoles. El Espíritu Santo desciende sobre los apóstoles reunidos en el cenáculo de Jerusalén. El Espíritu Santo viene como el viento porque es la vida de Dios respirada en nosotros y el fuego porque nos da luz para mostrarnos los caminos de Dios. El Espíritu Santo nos ayuda a entender quién es Dios y nos permite ser su testimonio para compartir su amor en todo el mundo.

Oración en familia: Señor Jesús, te doy las gracias por el don de Pentecostés y por la nueva vida en el Espíritu Santo. Lléname de tu Espíritu Santo y enciende mi corazón con el fuego de tu amor para que te sirva en gozo y libertad.
