4/24/22 - Divine Mercy Sunday - Cycle C

Dear Families,

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus appears to his disciples who are afraid and behind locked doors. Jesus greets them with the words “Peace be with you.” Then he breathes on them, imparting the Holy Spirit, and tells them that whose sins they forgive are forgiven. Jesus words to his disciples highlight the Sacrament of Reconciliation and they are empowered to forgive sins in Jesus’ name. Thomas is not present at this appearance of Jesus and does not believe the other disciples unless he sees for himself. Jesus returns, shows Thomas his wounds and Thomas believes.

Today the Second Sunday of Easter is also Divine Mercy Sunday. Mercy means being treated well even though we do not deserve it. When we sin, we may be afraid that God does not forgive us. However, we need to remember to believe that God is merciful and loves us no matter how bad our sins. When we are sorry for our sins God forgives us. Forgiveness and reconciliation are our gifts to us from Jesus.

How can we share God’s peace and forgiveness with one another?

Family Prayer: “Jesus, I trust in you!” Thank you for your peace and mercy. Lord, open our hearts and eyes to see the need of peace in each other. Help us share your gift of peace and prayerfully greet each other by saying “May the peace of the Lord be with you.” Amen

Querida Familias,

En el Evangelio de este domingo, Jesús se aparece a sus discípulos que tienen miedo y están detrás de puertas cerradas. Jesús los saluda con las palabras "La paz este con ustedes". Luego respira sobre ellos, impartiendo el Espíritu Santo, y les dice que los que ellos perdonen serán perdonados. Las palabras de Jesús a sus discípulos resaltan el Sacramento de la Reconciliación y ellos están facultados para perdonar los pecados en el nombre de Jesús. Tomás no está presente en esta aparición de Jesús y no cree en los otros discípulos a menos que vea por sí mismo. Jesús regresa, le muestra a Tomás sus heridas y Tomás cree.

Hoy el segundo domingo de Pascua es también el Domingo de la Divina Misericordia. Misericordia significa ser tratados bien, aunque no lo merezcamos. Cuando pecamos, podemos tener miedo de que Dios no nos perdone. Sin embargo, debemos recordar y creer que Dios es misericordioso y nos ama sin importar cuán malos sean nuestros pecados. Cuando estamos arrepentidos de nuestros pecados, Dios nos perdona. El perdón y la reconciliación son nuestros dones de Jesús.

Oración en Familia: “¡Jesús en Ti Confió!” Señor, abre nuestros corazones y ojos para ver la necesidad de paz en los demás. Ayúdanos a compartir tu don de paz y a saludarnos en oración diciendo "La paz del Señor esté contigo". Amén
